"Every painting needs to have one main area of interest, the reason
the painting was created in the first place. ... Even a
nonrepresentational painting needs a main area of interest to avoid
being glorified wallpaper." -- Greg Albert, The Simple Secret to
Better Painting p43 That it's really easy to do is one of the myths
of abstract painting. It's really easy to do badly, to copy what's
already been done and to use someone else's ideas. Creating an
abstract that's original and interesting, that's another cup of tea
altogether. See Also: • Step-by-Step Abstract Painting Demo

Knife Painting Tutorial

I like knife painting for several reasons, not least because
cleaning up is so easy. Usually all it takes is a few wipes of the
knife on a cloth and it's done.I also enjoy it for the types of
marks you can make with a knife, quite distinct from brushmarks.
It's the perfect tool for a rocky seashore with a choppy sea as you
can see in this Knife Painting Tutorial. The photo here shows me
right at the starting, working over an old canvas of a painting
idea that never went anywhere. See Also: • How to Hold a

Ideas for Abstract Paintings
"I have been painting for three years and I have constant problems
of what to paint. Especially as I would like to paint abstract
paintings (my favourite is Jackson Pollock). But I would also be
interested in how to make an abstract painting from a landscape?
Would you be so kind as to send me ideas for a couple of months
just as you sent to Faith? It would be tremendous help to me!" --
Judit K, in Hungary. I don't have six months' worth of painting
ideas for abstract paintings, but I have this image gallery of
ideas for abstracts. With regards developing abstracts from
landscapes, I've three articles you may find helpful:•
